Daniel N. Bak, Ph.D., P.E., FSE - Sr. Forensic Fire Protection Consultant with Ivey Engineering, Inc.

Biography

Presently, Daniel N. Bak is a Senior Forensic Fire Engineer at Ivey Engineering Inc.’s San Diego, California Office.  Prior to that Daniel was also a Senior Forensic Fire Engineer at SEA Limited’ s Columbus office.

He earned his Bachelor of Science from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering.  He also earned a Master of Science from Texas A&M University in Safety Engineering, and Doctorate degree in Industrial Engineering.  His research work for his thesis and dissertation were both focused in fire engineering.

His role of forensic engineer brings together over 37 years of cumulated experience in fire protection engineering and performance-approach (fire and smoke modeling) to be applied in the most testing and challenging environment of the litigation world.  Prior of his return to the States, Dr. Bak did an engineering circuit that included New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, and Thailand where performance-based approaches are rather the norm.  He also practiced extensively in Japan.

Dr. Bak has had extensive experience in Code Consultation in various jurisdictions in the United States and around the world as well as hands-on practice of designs of all type of fire suppression, fire alarm, and mass notification systems globally.  Dr. Bak has, historically, combined his acquired academic and practical experience to serve clients nationally and internationally with the best cost-effective fire engineering and risk sensible solutions.  The presentation that he will share with you is just one example of many demanding projects he spearheaded.  Dr. Bak is a past president of the SFPE Singapore Chapter.
