Carl F. Baldassarra is the President of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) for 2014.  Carl will be providing an update on the major activities the SFPE is undertaking this year, focusing on the development of a new strategic plan for the Society.  He will also provide background on the Society’s Education and Scientific Foundation. 

Baldassarra currently is an Executive Vice President at Rolf Jensen & Associates’ corporate offices in Chicago where he has been since 2009.  He also served as President of Schirmer (Aon) Engineering Corporation where he worked for more than 35 years.

A forty-year veteran of the profession, Baldassarra has served SFPE since 2005 on its Board of Directors. He has also served on Fire Protection Engineering Magazine’s Editorial Board and as Chair of the Society’s Public Awareness Committee.  Baldassarra is an SFPE Fellow, a distinguished group of members who have attained significant stature and accomplishment in engineering. He has been a member of the Chicago Chapter since 1973 and served on its Executive Committee, Special Events Committee and as its Editorial Committee Chair.

Baldassarra is a well-known consulting engineer in the profession who has made significant contributions to the profession of fire protection.  During his career, Mr. Baldassarra has developed innovative fire protection strategies and analyses for some of the world’s most prominent buildings, from airports and high-rise buildings to government facilities and institutions of higher learning.  He has been an active participant in many NFPA technical committees, the model building and fire code development committees, and organizations such as the Chicago Committee on High-Rise Buildings, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, the International Code Conference, the National Institute of Building Sciences, and the Underwriters Laboratories Fire Council. He holds a B. S. degree in Fire Protection Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, and a MBA from Lake Forest Graduate School. He is a licensed engineer in several states.
