Description: 

This course explains the need for firestop and provides an overview of how the model building codes are addressing the issue. Attendees should understand what firestopping is and why it’s needed, know the applicable code requirements related to firestop, and understand firestop system testing and listing for penetrations, interior partition wall joints and perimeter fire barrier at edge of slab. There will also be discussion about how firestopping fits into the design, specification, and construction process.

Here's what’s we’ll cover:

  • Understand the key test standards related to firestopping in applicable codes
  • Understand the many variables that affect firestop performance
  • Understand the secondary attributes of various firestop product
  •  Ways to improve specifications, drawings and details to promote proper selection and quality installation of firestop systems
Biography: 

Bryan Mireles is a Fire Protection Specialist for Hilti based out of San Diego, California. He has worked in the construction industry for six years and has been with Hilti for the past three. He has built up his knowledge of firestop through his experience on many jobsites and helping companies better understand the importance of firestop.
